Juana Molina

Artist Description

Two years ago, Argentinean singer Juana Molina's debut Segundo quietly worked its way into playlists of discerning listeners. A mixture of acoustic guitars, percussion, electronic flourishes, and disarming vocals, Segundo stands as one of the most evocative and original albums in recent memory. NPR's "All Things Considered" program praised her and Entertainment Weekly named Segundo "Best World Music Album of 2003." In the intimate setting of her home, she created Tres Cosas, a masterpiece of rich harmonies and textures. "After two years of working on Segundo - a record based on layers of sounds - I had the need to make a more simple record, based on guitar and vocals. I recorded less instruments and less arrangements, making it sound more crystalline than Segundo; it is more like what I do live just with the guitar." asserts Molina. "This whispery album is the latest invitation into the reveries of the Argentinean songwriter Juana Molina. It's built from her acoustic guitar picking, her hushed voice, melodies with the simplicity of lullabies and rustling, rippling, melting synthesizer backdrops that fill the songs with mystery." - Jon Pareles, NY Times #6 album of 2004 www.juanamolina.com
