The Weimarband

Artist Description

"The melodies of Tori Amos, Sweeney Todd, and southern rock meet a country/classical chamber band . . throw in some accordions and Dada lyrics and you have the ultimate post-modern sound."
- Frank Oteri, New Music Box

First assembled in 2000 by award-winning composer Jim Bauer, THE WEIMARBAND will be reunited for the first time in over four years at Joe's Pub, where the band got its start as part of the Public Theater's "New Work Now Festival". Using bassoon, pedal steel guitar, cello, accordion, electric guitar, piano, bass, drums and percussion to back several vocalists, Bauer set out in 1999 to create a blend of Berlin cabaret and American country music. As the project developed, it became a spiraling exploration of history and culture filtered through music: the last Belle Epoque, the first World War, the many faces of Weimar, and the many disquieting connections between the beginning of the last century and beginning of the present.

Featuring:
Jim Bauer: guitar/piano/vocals

David Driver: Special Guest Vocals
Mark Rubinstein: piano & accordion
John Widgren: pedal steel guitar
Erik Holtje: bassoon
