Often hailed as “The Voice of Africa" Youssou N’Dour is a Grammy-award winning performer endowed with remarkable range, poise and prodigious musical intelligence. Youssou absorbs the entire Senegalese musical spectrum in his work, and often filters this through the lens of genre-defying rock or pop music from outside Senegalese culture. Youssou's music is electric, spiritual and high-energy and has been praised globally. In addition to his musical genius, Youssou is also a respected advocate dedicated to improving lives in his native country Senegal and across Africa through his work in the fight against malaria and other causes. Time Magazine has recognized him as one of the 100 most influential people in the world for these efforts.

In commemoration of the first world-wide Malaria Awareness Day,Youssou comes to Joe's Pub to perform in a special benefit concert to raise support for his Foundation and to help further his advocacy efforts worldwide. Characteristic of the smaller artistic sets he regularly leads at his club in his home town of Dakar, Youssou will give a similarly intimate acoustic performance for this concert.
