Irma Thomas
Artist Description
The Grammy-winning Soul Queen of New Orleans makes a rare New York appearance in support of her new album, Simply Grand. There has always been a piano at the heart of Irma Thomas’s music, and the album pairs her with twelve of the best, including Ellis Marsalis, Dr. John, Norah Jones, Randy Newman and others. For this show, she’ll be accompanied by New Orleans pianist David Torkanowsky, acoustic bass and drums, along with special guests. They’ll perform material from the new album, including the new Burt Bacharach and Steve Krikorian song, “What Can I Do,” and the previously unrecorded Doc Pomus-Dr. John composition, “Be You.” Thomas is an American music icon who remains at the peak of her vocal and interpretive powers.
