Artist Description
"Delicate and edgy and sublime." - Nick Cave
"You'd never forget this pair: A voice-bass duo banking on improvisation while trusting in the power of an unadorned melody... Something novel is in the air." - Jim Macnie, The Village Voice
"Once you hear a song like "Whoops Wrong Daisy" it's hard to recall that you've had decades of life before it..." - David Greenberger, Metroland
"Comparisons evaporate." - Beth Orton
"Man, Flutterbox is GREAT. A strange and beautiful world." - Bill Frisell
Flutterbox plays nectar-drunken summer pop, octane-overdriven lunar rock, midnight pin-drop haiku jazz and candle-powered protest folk. Flutterbox is flower-core and road-trip-hop, avant-bard and emo-lark all in one aerodynamic duo: siren songstress Janine Nichols and bassist laureate Neill Cardinal Furio.
The Flutterbox repertoire is typically divided between Neill's beguilements and songs one or the other of them wishes they had written. Flutterbox does Strange Fruit every bit as correctly as I Won't Grow Up from Peter Pan, and might well do them both in the same set, along with Neill's actually unforgettable Whoops Wrong Daisy and one or more of his many car songs, Safety Last or Rust in Peace, to name just two.
