New Amsterdam Records

Artist Description

New Amsterdam Records was formed by independent musicians for independent musicians as a haven for the young New York composers and performers whose music slips through the cracks between genres.  Our goal is to support musicians by functioning as a truly pro-artist service organization, without the conflict of interests present in conventional record labels. To that end, the vast majority of proceeds from all music sales goes directly to our artists, in order to help them develop sustainable careers.  In only our first year of existence, New Amsterdam Records has already been labeled "the focal
point of the postclassical scene" by Time Out NY and the "virtual headquarters" of the new music scene by New York Magazine.   Both NPR's All Things Considered and MUSO Magazine have dedicated features to the label, and our first round of releases have garnered radio airplay and glowing reviews from media outlets around the country
(including New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, and Washington, D.C.).  New Amsterdam has also emerged as a major concert presenter in New York, putting on large-scale events at venues such as Joe's Pub, Le Poisson Rouge, Issue Project Room, and the Clemente Soto Velez Cultural Center, while partnering with organizations such as MATA, the Chelsea Art Museum, Counterstream Radio, and the East River Music Project.
