Howard Fishman

Artist Description

"Music doesn't get more accessible and disarmingly honest than this...simple, wonderful, and timeless songs, played well and with a twinkle in the eye."
-Metroland

Buzz-heavy composer, guitarist, singer and bandleader Howard Fishman has gotten a lot of attention lately for interpreting other people's music. He recently premiered his Basement Tapes Project at Joe's Pub over three sold-out nights (he just reprised the project at Lincoln Center and released a CD/DVD of the material); Additionally, Fishman reassembled his acclaimed original Quartet for a series of shows devoted to the music of Hoagy Carmichael; and, he joined forces with the Original Pinstripe Brass Band of New Orleans for a rousing program of Big Easy brass band gospel, blues and jazz. Lest anyone forget, Fishman is best known for what The New Yorker calls his "haunting, cunning originals," music that The Washington Post has said is "scintillating…gritty…brilliant." His first CD of originals I Like You A Lot, landed in Rolling Stone's Top 10 Albums of the Year, and subsequent CD's have cemented his reputation as what the Boston Herald calls a "less-innocent Jonathan Richman or less-acid Lou Reed."
