Artist Description
Irka Mateo is a world music artist from the Dominican Republic. Her artistic sensibility developed in Spain, France, Brazil, Canada, and her native country. Irka has a way of embracing the crowd with her charisma and array of rhythms; whether performing at the Montreal Jazz Festival or the intimacy of a few score people in New York’s Nuyorican Poets Cafe, where she received the Taino Music Award. She has recently released the album Anacaona which has placed in the top ten of world music charts throughout Canada and most recently in Barcelona.
