Jimmie Dale Gilmore

Artist Description

Founding member of The Flatlanders and folk/country pioneer Jimmie Dale Gilmore is a distinctive singer and interpreter of songs who has spent over three decades re-inventing himself and pushing the boundaries of country music. The Rolling Stone Critics' Poll named him the Country Artist of the Year for two straight years, while the Grammys nominated him for Best Contemporary Folk Artist for Spinning Around the Sun and Braver Newer World. Tonight, he marks the release of Come on Back (Rounder), a memorial to his father and musical hero, Brian Gilmore, who died in 2000 of ALS-Amyotropic Lateral Sclerosis, also known as Lou Gehrig's Disease. As Gilmore explains in the liner notes, the recording "consists of songs that [my father] particularly loved, from an era of music that seems on the verge of being totally forgotten. They are simple, well-crafted, unpretentious little gems from a wonderfully creative period in American commercial music." "Gilmore has in many ways come to represent the current Austin music scene - its rootsy mix of country, rock, and folk music - the way Willie Nelson once reigned as king of the town's cosmic cowboys in the 1970s." –All Music Guide
