Kevin Cahoon
Artist Description
You will be held captive by thepistol power performance and raw theatricsof glam punk/pop band, Kevin Cahoon and Ghetto Cowboy, one of the most buzzed about new music events in New York City's downtown music scene. The group's song "Fashionista" was featured on several runways during Spring 2006 Fashion Week, and is currently in the top 50 for Sirius Satellite Radio / OutQ's Mid-Year Music Survey. Born and raised just outside of Houston, Kevin Cahoon first performed on the local rodeo circuit, as a rodeo clown. He wasted no time reaching the zenith of pop culture stardom for teenagers in the 80s – an appearance on "Star Search." He took the Junior Grand Championship in 1985 with a show tune (though he won't tell which song he sang). Cahoon also recently originated the role of George in The Wedding Singer. Kevin has built his career and extensive fanbase due to the edgy/alternative roles he has played on Broadway; including The Childcatcher in ChittyChittyBangBang, Ed the Hyena in The Lion King and Hedwig in Hedwig and the Angry Inch. In addition to having an amazing presence on a Broadway stage, he has a dynamic energy on a music stage where he and his band put on a SHOW; Broadway runs deep in his veins. Most recently, Cahoon performed at the benefit for Friends In Deed: "Brilliant Mistake: Broadway Sings Elvis Costello" where he shared the stage with a many noteworthy artists, including Costello, singing what Variety called, "a rowdy glam-induced version of 'Lipstick Vogue.'"'Joining Kevin on the Joe's Pub stage areMatt Allen, Brien Brannigan, Montego Glover, Chris Jago, Steve Lavner, Angela Lockett, Matthew Greer and Jan Tilley in addition to other special guests. "On a Broadway stage, Kevin Cahoon is the Childcatcher, a menacing, heavily made-up creature in black who scares small children in "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang." On a downtown club stage, Mr. Cahoon is the lead singer for a glam rock band called Kevin Cahoon and Ghetto Cowboy, a menacing, heavily made-up punk rocker." – New York Times
