Sonya Kitchell with Reggie Watts

Sonya Kitchell with Reggie Watts (of Maktub)

Show Description

Sonya Kitchell grew up and still lives on 40 acres in rural western Massachusetts and though nature serves as muse and inspiration, her
courage stems from watching both of her parents carve out successful careers as artists. From them, the young Kitchell inherited a love of photography, travel and, most of all, music. There is an undeniable warmth and wholesomeness to fifteen-year-old Sonya Kitchell's music, who has just released her debut EP "Cold Days." With influences ranging from Joni Mitchell, Ella Fitzgerald and Norah Jones, Kitchell has developed a sound all her own. It is unadorned, honest and heartfelt. To date, she has written over 100 songs, an incredible feat given that she only started writing three years ago, at the age of twelve.

Born in Germany, Reggie Watts grew up in Great Falls, Montana, the son
of an African-American Air Force officer and his French wife. For the
last 5 years, he's been the front man for Seattle biggest independent
band, Maktub. He combines the R&B and soul stylings of Al Green with the
rock power and grit of Chris Cornell. His enormous afro stands out like
the space needle in the Seattle landscape. His new solo record borrows
from soul heroes, Lenny Kravitz and new crooners like Van Hunt and John
Legend. His solo show mixes on-the-fly looping, comedy and stream of
consciousness improv.
