The Reggie Watts Tangent and Eugene Mirman

The Reggie Watts Tangent

Show Description

Reggie Watts started his performing career doing standup in his Montana high school, winning the title of Montana State High School Comedy Champ. That's funny. But after moving to Seattle, Reggie focused on his other talents-writing a successful Christmas play, composing scores for several modern dance pieces, playing in successful indie bands like Micron 7, 4+1 with Wayne Horwitz, fronting Maktub, the live electronic group Synth Club, recording and touring with New York's Soulive, sharing the stage with The Black Eyed Peas and even performing with Will.I.Am from the Peas on his short-lived MTV Video Show. Recently, Reggie returned to his comedy roots, but brought with him all he has learned as a vocalist/musician. Reggie immediately gained a buzz performing in New York at 'alternative' comedy
nights like Eugene Mirman's show Invite them Up at Rafifi, and won the first annual Oy! Oy! Award this year at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. Described as "...Seattle's own Bobby McFerrin on crack", Reggie mixes looped vocals created live on stage with a unique brand of improvised comedy. Reviewers have commented that Reggie's show "...made me snort loudly and openly weep hot tears of mirth", was "...possibly the cult hit of the festival" that "Some of the younger people in the audience seem to love it, but then some people like being peed on" and that "The great tradition of the nonsense song is taken to new extremes by Reggie Watts...There are moments of genuine five-star brilliance...if you're looking for a fresh comic voice, Watts certainly carries a lasting charge of comic electricity."

Who or what is Eugene Mirman? "At the forefront of this new wave of comedians" (NY Post) Eugene Mirman is a comedian, writer, and film maker based in New York City (where, according to commercials, salsa is terrible). As a child, he emigrated from Russia and experienced a John Cusack 80's high school movie life. Eugene attended Hampshire College in Western Massachusetts, where he designed his own Comedy major. Eugene has appeared on several TV shows, including Late Night With Conan O'Brien, Comedy Central's Premium Blend and Jump Cuts, VH1, Third Watch, Cartoon Network's Home Movies and more. He also played a spokes-potato on Food Network and other oddities on various programs. Eugene recently released The Absurd Nightclub Comedy of Eugene Mirman, a CD/DVD on Suicide Squeeze Records, which was voted one of the Best Albums of 2004 by both The Onion and Time Out New York. Often touring the country, Eugene occasionally opens for the comedy troupe Stella (former members of The State), various bands, or with others. Eugene has opened for The Shins and toured with Modest Mouse and Yo La Tengo. "Top 100 interesting people of 2004...In an ideal world, Eugene would become the next Seinfeld, dominating airwaves with his deadpan humor (it doesn't get any funnier than drugs and death and sex and children!)" - USATODAY.com
