Show Description
Reboot presents a variety show in celebration of the release of Volume 2 of Guilt & Pleasure-a quarterly magazine made up of first person, reported, fiction, and comics. The evening is an extravaganza of deep n' thoughtful yet hilarious essays, music, and performance-type surprises, all on the timely topic of Jews and how they fight. And why they fight. If they know how to fight at all. If you're a Jew, or even Jewish-ish, you must have gone to camp with some of the people performing, like Faith and Jill Soloway, David Brendel, Jonathan Goldstein, Jessi Klein, Jamie Denbo, Jessica Chaffin or Jeremy Chatzky. Moog pioneer Gershon Kingsley is also scheduled to appear. You probably didn't go to camp with him. A little more about the people you get to see…The whole deal will be hosted by the Soloway Sisters, who are Jill Soloway, who was a writer and producer on 6 Feet Under for four years, wrote a book called Tiny Ladies in Shiny Pants, and is getting ready to direct her first feature, called Tricycle. Her sister, Faith Soloway creates and performs in rock operas in Boston, including Jesus Has Two Mommies, which is in the works to open on Broadway next year. Together, the Soloway Sisters created The Real Live Brady Bunch-a generation-defining theatrical experience where actors performed actual episodes, as well as The Miss Vagina Pageant, a musical that used the word "vagina" a good decade before Eve Ensler. Faith and Jill may get into a fight while they host.
Jonathan Goldstein, public radio host and essayist, plus author of Lenny Bruce Is Dead and the co-author of In Search of Elvis Presley's Jewish Roots-reads a piece about his competitive relationship with Superman.
Jessi Klein is a stand-up comedian and writer. Since entering the comedy scene in 2001, she's made numerous appearances on Comedy Central, CNBC, The Today Show, and VH1's Best Week Ever. Jessi plans on doing something funny, which will be easy for her since she's a comedian.
Jeremy Chatzky brings band members from Loser Lounge to weave it all together magically.
Gershon Kingsley, is the electronica pioneer and Moog innovator who unleashed the smash hit "Popcorn" and the classic blueprint "The In Sound From Way Out" (w/ Jean-Jacques Perry) on the world. GOD IS A MOOG is a double album featuring recordings from 1968 to 1974 in which he played the Sabbath service on the Moog.
Jamie Denbo has been in Reno 911!, Half & Half, Love Inc., Weekends at the DL, Sex and the City, and Late Night with Conan O'Brien. She performs both in LA and NY Upright Citizens Brigade Theatres, and appeared at the Just for Laughs Comedy Festival in Montreal. Her first one woman show went to Aspen and her second show, Rennie!, chronicles her true life experiences working on the Renaissance Festival circuit.
Beverly Kahn and Ronna Glickman have been friends for over forty years. Between them, they have seven marriages, three children, some step kids they never talk about and a best-selling book. You'll Do a Little Better Next Time: A Guide to Marriage and Re-marriage for Jewish Singles ("You won't listen to your mother, but you might listen to her best friends!") has topped the Jewish Advocate's best-seller's list since its Pesach 2005 release. It is currently in its fourth printing.
From Scarsdale to Scottsdale, Beverly and Ronna have spent the past year touring various synagogues, campus Hillel houses and the occasional family room, promoting their book and speaking about the issues they know best: love, Jews, Neiman-Marcus and their children. They are socially liberal, fiscally conservative and both think Clinton was a real mensch. They make their respective homes in Swampscott, Massachusetts. Neither of them has had any work done.
