Show Description
This new series at Joes Pub, hosted by New York musician Joy Askew, will feature Richard Julian, Chiara Civello and Everett Bradley, informal interviews, collaboration and Joy herself sitting in. The series aims to bring the audience closer to the artists and the artists closer to each other. Genres and genders will be mixed, as will old hands with new faces, promising some unique and spontaneous performances in this great sounding club!Richard Julian is a long-time New York City resident. His latest record is "Slow New York," his major label debut that follows up 2002's "Good Life," which won Best Album Of The Year in the 3rd Annual Independent Music Awards. Slow New York is an attempt, in Julian's words, to arrest the hectic pace of the big city and "tell stories in freeze frame." Sparsely arranged without studio gimmickry, the CD features members of the artist's musical community, including Norah Jones on piano and vocals. "Richard just knocks me out. Some of the coolest, smartest and original music I've heard in years." - Bonnie Raitt
Debut albums are greeted with the hope that they will offer a first glimpse of great musical talent. Last Quarter Moon, the recording debut of Italian singer, songwriter, and pianist Chiara Civello, makes good on the promise of discovery. The album's title track, "Last Quarter Moon," speaks to this crossroads in her life, a place of transition and rebirth. "(Chiara Civello's) record is haunting and she's fantastic. It really doesn't matter what she's singing about because her voice just captivates you. And 'The Wrong Goodbye' - HOLY COW - did she write that?" - Cindy Lauper
Everett Bradley is a Grammy-nominated singer/songwriter, producer, actor, dancer and has been gracing New York with his multi-flavored art for the past 15 years. He has toured and performed in and out of the studio with musical giants like Stevie Wonder, Jon Bon Jovi, Bobby McFerrin, and David Bowie. Everett's first full length CD, As Ever It Is, received rave reviews and his latest completion, an original Christmas CD entitled, "TOY," is a joyous, funky, collection of new Christmas tunes.
