Amanda Ghost - Presented in Association with The Green Apple Music Festival
Show Description
Amanda Ghost takes the traditional image of a singer/songwriter and turns it on its head. Possibly best-known as the co-writer of the mega-hit 'You're Beautiful' on James Blunt's debut album 'Bedlam', Amanda Ghost actually thinks of herself as a singer first and songwriter second. In fact she had been in and out of a deal with Warner (US) before she collaborated with James, releasing a critically well-received album 'Ghost Stories' in 2001, including the singles 'Filthy Mind' a US club smash and 'Idol'. Her music is a blend of styles that defies categorization, but it is her voice that makes her stand out from the crowd. According to UK's The Daily Telegraph: "She sings in the key of heartbreak, with a voice that is a blend of Stevie Nicks and Edith Piaf, sometimes wistful, sometimes angry but always honest," and she actually recently collaborated with Stevie Nicks on songs for her upcoming album. Joni Mitchell considers Amanda 'the real deal' and has declared her song 'Blood On The Line' to be, "One of the best songs of the last ten years." For the past couple of years she has worked and performed with her long-term collaborator and partner on 'Amanda Ghost', Ian Dench. Ian himself has an international reputation as a songwriter having written the punk standard 'Unbelievable', a worldwide hit for EMF, of which Ian was the guitarist and founder member. Their album is scheduled for release in early 2007 on the Band's own label, Plan A Records. "It's no surprise that she is the machination of popular genius behind James Blunt; Amanda is a commanding singer and a very talented song writer." - Antony (and the Johnsons)
