Haale

Haale

Show Description

"Haale's warm, supple voice unfurled like a curlicue of smoke."
-The New York Times

"The surprise chestnut at the heart of the music is the dynamic, fiery delivery of Haale herself, whose voice is by turns deep and commanding, feather-light and breezy, and as rich and sensual as dark-chocolate fondue."
–Flavorpill

"Brilliantly produced rhythms."
-Popmatters

"An extraordinarily powerful vocalist. The emotions expressed in Haale's songs are as warm and inviting as the sounds..."
-Jim Derogatis, Chicago Sun Times

"Life wants to see you whole again."  If that's not a mantra for 2011, I don't know what is.  A single guitar--evoking PJ Harvey one moment and Jimmy Page the next moment---dances with the Vishnu-armed Matt Kilmer's percussion.  The only other essential element is Haale's voice: pure, direct, switching fluidly between English and Persian.  One of the most expansive duos out there...this band will send a chill down your spine."
-BeaconPass.com

Before they launched The Mast in 2010, Haale and Matt Kilmer were writing, performing, and touring together for 3 years under Haale's name.  Starting in 2007, upon the release of the EPs, 'Paratrooper' and 'Morning,'  they toured across the country, in Canada, and Europe playing such venues as the Bonnaroo festival, the David Byrne-curated series at Carnegie Hall, the Hillside Festival, Celebrate Brooklyn, Mimi Festival in France, and Preservation Hall in New Orleans. In March 2008, they released the full-length album 'No Ceiling' which the Boston Globe called , 'one of the year's most memorable releases.'

Since then, they built a recording studio in Brooklyn, have worked on various movie projects, and have written and recorded material new material for The Mast.  The Mast will release their debut album, 'Wild Poppies,' in the spring of 2011. Videos of the band recording tracks for their album are below and on the website.

"It’s been too long since I got my last Haale fix. She gets such a great groove going in the room, and I often find myself getting lost in the psych-rock-meets-Persian-trance atmosphere that she and her band conjure up. When Haale plays at Joe’s, it’s also a great time to really appreciate the room itself – the combination of the music and the way the lights hit the Pub stage really transport you to an ethereal and dynamic headspace." - Jo Lampert (Artist Liason)
