Show Description
"Rachael Sage has an inimitable personal style, a balance of flamboyance and femininity...a performance as distinctive as it was entertaining."- The Washington Post
"Dexterous and haunting work, scored with dark emotional hues, rich chromatic chordings and surprising, adventurous changes. Musically sophisticated and accomplished work...standing tall next to any and all contemporary competition."
- Philadelphia Daily News
Dubbed a "true Renaissance performer" by the Village Voice, East Village art-pop siren Rachael Sage returns to Joe's Pub for a very special one-time performance as part of M.E.A.N.Y. FEST 2007. This show will feature songs from her latest album, "The Blistering Sun" (MPress Records, '06), as well as material from her forthcoming album, "Chandelier"* and old favorites, re-imagined with string accompaniment by cellist Dave Eggar and his quartet.
A former student at the Public Theater's Shakespeare Lab, Sage seduces listeners with sensual vocal/piano hooks and intensely poetic lyrics creating what Paste Magazine calls "wildly expressive, moody, edgy folk." Winner of the 2006 and 2005 Independent Music Award and the 2005 Outmusic Award for Outstanding Songwriter, Rachael has shared stages with Sheryl Crow, Sarah McLachlan, Ani DiFranco & Marshall Crenshaw.
Featuring Jennifer Choi and Gregor Huebner on violin, Ron Lawrence on Viola and Dave Eggar on cello.
*NOTE: A LIMITED EDITION AVANCED EP OF SONGS FROM RACHAEL'S EIGHTH ALBUM, "CHANDELIER" (DUE OUT APRIL, 2008), WILL BE AVAILABLE ONLY FOR ATTENDEES OF THIS SHOW!
