Marta Topferova composes and performs beautiful lyrical music rooted in rhythms such as Venezuelan vals, merengue and Cuban son while adding her unique style coming from her background in classical music and the folklore of her native Czechoslovakia. Marta has achieved an admirable maturity in her compositions, lyrics, sound as a vocalist and leader of her own ensemble, which features Marta on vocal & cuatro, Colombian harpist Edmar Castaneda and Venezuelan percussionist Neil Ochoa, and she has already collaborated with producer Joe Boyd (Cubanisimo, Virginia Rodrigues, Nick Drake, Fairport Convention) and such notable musicians as Chris Komer (Orpheus Chamber Orchestra), Jenny Scheinman (Norah Jones, John Zorn, Bill Frisell). From Cali, Colombia, singer-songwriter Marta Gomez crafts genuine songs with hooks that can transport even non-Spanish-speakers into the heart of her anthemic refrains and irresistible rhythms. Accompanied by a trio of her fellow South American musicians, Gomez mixes a wide range of Colombian cumbia and bambuco, Argentine zamba, Cuban son, Peruvian landó and Brazilian bossa nova resulting in a wonderfully fresh sound. Gomez, who is celebrating the Chesky Records release of her new album CANTOS DE AGUA DULCE, can also be heard on the recent Putumayo release WOMEN OF LATIN AMERICA, and is featured in the WGBH-TV special titled "La Plaza: Young Latin Blood."
