Show Description
"breathtakingly inspired. Here she's spinning variations on opera in her unique style." - The Village Voice"We'd long suspected that the imposing jazz-pop chanteuse Nora York might have a touch of the operatic in her soul!" - Time Out NY
"ingenious ...radical.... extravagant talent." - The New Yorker
Nora York returns to the Pub with her work in progress Furtiva Lagrima (secret tear). Composed by layering excerpts from classical and baroque music with her own voice and standards. York begins with Puccini’s Tosca as a jumping off point and travels through the multiple loves and betrayals that fill the opera stage; exploring the intersection of the personal and the political, the operatic and the jazz. The band is comprised of virtuoso crossover and classical players with the amazing classical singer Kevin Burdette. She is developing a fully staged theatrical event under the direction of Joanne Akalaitis with a set installation created by Kiki Smith.
