On Wedneseday June 11th acclaimed songwriter, composer, violinist, singer Jenny Scheinman appears with guitarist and vocalist Tony Scherr, bassist Tim Luntzel and drummer Anton Fier at Joe's Pub. Jenny Scheinman's set will feature songs from her self-titled recently released vocal debut album. Her upcoming release combines original, autobiographical contemporary folk compositions together with stunning renditions of old-time country and blues selections by the likes of Bob Dylan, Lucinda Williams, Tom Waits, Mississippi John Hurt, and several others.
Since moving to New York City in 1999, Scheinman has found herself working alongside such lauded artists as Lou Reed, Norah Jones, Bill Frisell, Lucinda Williams, Madeleine Peyroux, Marc Ribot and countless others. For the past five years (2003-2007), Scheinman has taken the #1 Rising Star Violinist title in the Downbeat Magazine Critics Poll and has been listed as one of their Top Ten Overall Violinists. Her fourth instrumental record, 12 Songs, was named by the New York Times (Ben Ratliff) as one of the Top Ten Albums of 2005, and she's recently garnered numerous high-profile arranging credits.
On Tuesday, May 27, 2008, Jenny Scheinman was released online and in retail outlets nationwide. Her fifth instrumental recording, Crossing The Field, which features Scheinman alongside Grammy Award-winning guitarist Bill Frisell, pianist Jason Moran (Blue Note) and a string orchestra led by founding members of the string quartet Brooklyn Rider, was also released online and will be available on vinyl in August, and hard copy CD in the fall.
