Returning for a second year after its acclaimed, sold-out debut, globalFEST -- "a coming-out party of sorts for the rapidly growing world-music community... a one-night blowout." (Variety) -- brings together a remarkable continuous line-up of artists performing 45-minute sets from 7 pm till...on three stages at The Public Theater, including Joe's Pub, the Anspacher Theater and Martinson Hall. Pay one price for an evening-long festival, of contemporary and traditional music from around the globe, with a line-up showcasing established veterans and emerging stars, featuring: NYC's powerhouse Antibalas Afrobeat Orchestra; the queen of Afro-Peruvian song, Eva Ayllon; Argentina's subtle folktronica chanteuse Juana Molina; the soaring vocals and sweet guitar work of French Congolese Lokua Kanza; the first NY show in 14 years of Guinea's legendary Mory Kante; the award winning flamenco music and dance of Spain's Noche Flamenca, featuring Soledad Barrio and Martin Santangelo; Ollabelle's reimagined rural American roots gospel, country and blues; French cafe and manouche Gypsy swing from Paris Combo; Mali's newest star singer-songwriter and innovator Rokia Traore; New York incendiary salsa dura masters Spanish Harlem Orchestra; updated "hardcore folk" from Poland's Warsaw Village Band, Japanese shamisen sensations Yoshida Brothers, and bhangra/Bollywood/Asian Underground beats from NYC's pioneering DJ Rekha.
"I've been lucky to have witnessed some very special events, the kind where you just look into the eyes of someone else exiting the building and, without a word being said, there is an agreement – you both know you've just spent an evening you'll remember for the rest of your lives; you've been a participant in an event that others, for years to come, will wish (and claim) they had been part of. globalFest was one such evening...With starting times staggered and a wristband good for unlimited access, one could choose to sample an act and move on to another room, or stay put and catch an entire set. Whichever route you chose, it was a virtual certainty that you had an amazing experience." - Global Rhythm
