Lucy Kaplansky

Lucy Kaplansky

Show Description

"Bold, vibrant...vocals seem to glide to the heavens."
-Boston Globe

Fusing folk-pop, rock and alt country into her own perfect blend, singer-songwriter Lucy Kaplansky gets to the heart of a song, drawing on her background as a clinical psychologist to turn a reflective eye on the many facets of being: love and longing, guilt and sorrow, promises and lies, hope and redemption. As a result of her steady touring – solo, with a band, and with folk supergroup "Cry, Cry, Cry" (with Dar Williams and Richard Shindell) – Lucy's distinctive blend of warmth, power and vulnerability and riveting performances have won her a devoted following. With a beautiful flair for harmony, Kaplansky originally came to prominence as "everyone's favorite singing partner", joining NY's fertile coffeehouse community of songwriters and performers and adding her voice to recordings by Suzanne Vega, John Gorka, Nancy Griffith, and Shawn Colvin. In 1994, she began to release a series of acclaimed albums on Red House, winning the Association For Independent Music award for best pop album of 1999, and steadily toping the Americana and Triple A radio charts, with her latest scheduled for February 2004.
