Putumayo World Playground presents Bakithi Kumalo with special guest Robbi K (both artists are featured on the Putumayo Kids CD, African Playground)

This inaugural concert between Putumayo Kids and Joe's Pub will feature Bakithi and Robbi K of African Playground.
Bakithi and Robbi K will present music from South Africa in a highly interactive show involving call-and-response, clapping, clicking, group singing and general all-ages fun. Bakithi, a multilingual native of Soweto, South Africa, has performed with Paul Simon's band and on the Grammy Award-winning Graceland (his famous bass solo is on the song "You Can Call Me Al."). They will perform a variety of traditional, familiar South African songs, such as "The 'Click' Song," "Pata Pata" (made famous by Miriam Makeba), the Zulu folk song "Mbube," and Robbi's arrangement of a traditional South African folk tune that she calls "The Rooster Song."
