Jamie Leonhart

Show Description

“This seems to be a new age of the chanteuse.’ One of the finest to emerge is Jamie Leonhart.”
–George Graham, host of WVIA’s “HomeGrown”

“New York's pop/jazz singer extraordinaire Jamie Leonhart entrances with a silky, soulful elegance. …Her original numbers are beautifully crafted, offering intoxicating melodies and involving lyrics… She transforms the Muppets' 'Rainbow Connection' into a cabaret tune that's simultaneously lovely and intriguingly off-kilter, with its darkly carnival-like organ…”
-Paul Freeman, East Bay Daily News

NYC-based singer/songwriter Jamie Leonhart brings her dynamic voice and passionate songbook to downtown NYC’s Joe’s Pub to offer songs from first full-length album release, The Truth About Suffering. Drawing comparisons to artistic powerhouses such as k.d. lang, Norah Jones and  Madeleine Peyroux, Jamie Leonhart’s memorable music is, like the aforementioned artists, difficult to pigeonhole.   Full of soulful verve, spirit and humor, Leonhart's songs combine elements of jazz, pop and quirky cabaret that bounce between moods both somber and joyous. It is music that reflects her versatility.  Be it stints as a classical violinist to singing with indie darlings and Broadway stars, writing Tin Pan Alley-style verse or performing as a gospel soloist in the NY Metro Mass Choir at Carnegie and Avery Fisher Halls – the combination of these adventures creates her singular voice.  Aided by a nine-piece band with arrangements by Michael Leonhart (Steely Dan), Jamie Leonhart and her dynamic repertoire is guaranteed – like the Big Apple herself – to take your ears and heart on an emotional trip.

This event is part of the Joe’s Pub 10th Anniversary Celebration!
