Brilliant American songwriters are the order of the day as Grammy-winning folk artist Patty Griffin, New Orleans icon Allen Toussaint and a collective of Nashville's best composers and songwriters invite the Big Apple in for some country cooking and musical soul food.

Patty Griffin has twice been nominated for a Grammy for Best Contemporary Folk Album. Griffin's songs have been covered by artists such as Bette Midler, Reba McEntire, and Mary Chapin Carpenter, among others. Artists such as Lisa Germano, Emmylou Harris, and Buddy & Julie Miller joined Griffin for the recording of her fourth album, Impossible Dream, which came out in April 2004. This year she released her latest album, Children Running Through, which was also co-arranged and produced by Mike McCarthy of Spoon. A musical based on her songs, 10 Million Miles, is currently appearing off-Broadway.

Allen Toussaint is an American musician, songwriter, record producer, Rock-and-Roll Hall-of-Famer, and one of the most influential figures in New Orleans R&B. He has been making hit records for over 40 years and has been covered by and/or performed with the Pointer Sisters, Bonnie Raitt, Otis Redding, Paul Simon, Chet Atkins, and Lenny Kravitz, among others. The River in Reverse, Toussaint's collaborative album with Elvis Costello, was released in May 2006 at a premiere in Joe's Pub. The album received a Grammy® nomination for Best Pop Vocal Album.

The Country Music Association has been holding its Songwriter Series songwriter circles at Joe's Pub since 2005, hosted by Music Row hitmaker and raconteur Bob DiPiero. The Songwriter Series offers a rare opportunity to bring some of Nashville's best known performers and most acclaimed writers and composers to the New York stage. Past guests at the Songwriter Series at Joe's Pub include Kix Brooks of Brooks and Dunn, Rives Rutherford, Chely Wright, Keith Anderson and Brett James.
