Fionn Ó Lochlainn

Fionn Ó Lochlainn

Show Description

"Lovely, lyrical, spiritual, a joy to listen to." - Howard Zinn

'We've heard few recent debuts as bold and provocative as Fionn O Lochlainn's Spawn of the Beast. Not only does he demonstrate a knack for observant songwriting, but he's an impressive guitarist and musters a vocal range that stretches from dry witticisms to power-crooning worthy of Jeff Buckley. The biggest surprises come in a drone-based cover of Black Sabbath's "War Pigs" (complete with rustic uilleann pipes) and two transformed Frank Zappa tunes, "I Am the Slime" and "Dumb All Over." Elsewhere, Ó Lochlainn cuts to the bone with the stark "Blues for America." - TimeOutNY

"When Fionn played "Waterside" live in the studio for our radio show, he left everyone in the room breathless. His voice is incredibly pure and always soulful. An amazing performer, songwriter, and recording artist." - Mark Sutton, NPR

Known for captivating and breathless performances while filling the Joe’s Pub stage with masterful instrumentalists -- and on occasion, a small choir, Fionn O Lochlainn will be performing a special solo set of new material on February 20th, including his newly released 'Imaginary Song.' Expect a buoyant and intimate night of insightful ballads, unvarnished love songs, and evocative lyricism.

Accompanying himself on multiple instruments including acoustic guitar, piano and mandola, Fionn converges ethereal textures with melodic dreamlike vocals evocative of Nick Drake or early Bowie, sometimes venturing into stratospheric sonic territory.

Currently writing and recording new material for his latest album, to be released in Spring/Summer ‘09, he will also perform at SXSW in March ‘09. Fionn's debut album 'Spawn of the Beast', has yielded widespread critical acclaim.
