“Andy Biskin's effervescent quintet slams neo-Dixieland, Jimmy Giuffre-esque chamber jazz, and Raymond Scott-inspired zaniness together and still finds plenty of room for inspired improvisation and offbeat composition.”- The New Yorker
Clarinetist and composer Andy Biskin’s music has been compared to Raymond Scott, Charles Ives, Charles Mingus, and Lawrence Welk. He first came into the spotlight with the release of his quintet’s debut CD Dogmental (GM Recordings) in 2000, which had its CD release party at Joe’s Pub. The album was hailed as “a little triumph” by The New York Times and was featured twice on NPR’s “Fresh Air with Terry Gross.” Biskin has gone on to explore the music of Stephen Foster and the inventions of Rube Goldberg, and last year released two critically acclaimed CDs, Early American and Trio Tragico (Strudelmedia). Biskin an his quintet return to Joe’s Pub with a grabbag of new tunes before heading into the recording studio.
