Balthrop, Alabama and
Caithlin De Marrais
Presented in Association with the Green Apple Festival
Show Description
Back in the day, one of the most popular acts on the Vaudeville circuit was the Chalk Talk, a live cartoon performed by a storyteller who drew on a large chalk board. illustrating the jokes and pacing the patter. These early performances were the birthplace of the animated cartoon, the theatre events that inspired Disney and his contemporaries. Brooklyn neighbors and frequent collaborators Balthrop, Alabama, Caithlin De Marrais, and Michael Arthur are bringing the tradition back to Joe's Pub and adding music. It's a Chalk Talk for the 21st Century, great tunes and a live drawing display that, when combined, will dazzle and amaze...We're leaving Carroll Gardens for the night and coming to Joe's Pub to sing the scenery...

Michael Arthur's artistic talent qualifies him for canonization. Oh, wait, I'm horribly biased. And yet, still correct. After all, Hirschfeld thinks Michael's brilliant, too.
Disturbingly Fabulous

Balthrop, Alabama, a charmingly ragtag bundle of klezmer-hick virtuosity, implies necrophilia, incest and xenophobia in its lyrics.
How can I fail to love them? It's like having the most cuddly hellhound in the universe lick your hand like a red-tick after it's treed a possum.
Smelling of brimstone and eager to play. Oh, roll over, Satan's plush toy, and bare your belly to my eager caress!
