Manchildblack celebrates the release of the highly anticipated “My Mind’s I” EP, a follow-up to his “Awake In A Dream” EP released on the legendary label, West End Records. Manchildblack’s “My Mind’s I” EP features a collection of incredible soul music full of passion, honesty, and love. Making his Joe’s Pub debut, Manchildblack will performing brand new material from this EP, as well as the acclaimed “Rain”, “To The Sky” and much more!
Although deeply affected by the Sam Cooke and Jackie Wilson tastes of his upbringing, today Manchild continues to be heavily influenced by other types of music as well. However, this time he counts the late politically based afro-beat king, Fela Kuti and Stevie Wonder, who, for Manchild, epitomizes the word “artist”. Collaborative efforts with famed New York producer, Antonio Ocasio (“Spirit Rise”), and his recent work with legendary disco and house label, West End Records (“Awake in a Dream EP”), Manchildblack uses a “music as story telling” approach to his new material. Delivering powerful messages with such songs as “Awake in a Dream” and “To the Sky” helps Manchild hone in on his self-coined “nu global soul” lyrical approach – a sound that incorporates African, Brazilian rhythms and neo-soul. Simply put: Manchildblack wants to continue to be a voice for independent music; an acclaimed art form not readily heard on mainstream radio, but heard on dance floors all over the globe.
DJ Ian Friday (Tea Party Music, Libation) starts the
night off right before Manchildblack takes the stage, so get there early to
catch his set.
