Max Wild and Sam Mtukudzi

Max Wild and Sam Mtukudzi
Presented in Association with the Green Apple Festival

Show Description

Tonight marks the long-awaited New York debut of Zimbabwean singer-songwriter Sam Mtukudzi and jazz saxophonist Max Wild. 'It is a night to celebrate their exciting cross-cultural collaboration, recently recorded and released on ObliqSound'

Sam Mtukudzi is the multi-talented nineteen-year-old son of legendary Afro-pop giant Oliver Mtukudzi. With unwavering charisma and maturity that belies his years, Sam has been captivating audiences across Africa and is poised to break internationally.

Max Wild has been turning heads on the Big Apple jazz scene with his distinct sound and unmistakable compositions, and has masterminded this ambitious cross-Atlantic endeavor.

The stellar ensemble fuses powerful African melodies with subtle jazz harmonies and infectious rock, and features some of New York's most accomplished jazz musicians working side-by-side with Africa's hottest vocal talents: Max Wild (saxophone), Sam Mtukudzi (vocals/guitar), Martha Badza and Alicia Olatuja (vocals), Obed Calvaire (drums), Michael Olatuja (bass), Jesse Lewis (guitar) and Soren Moller (piano). Tonight ObliqSound will be releasing Teerera, the newly recorded tour-de-force single teaming Max Wild up with African superstar Oliver Mtukudzi.
