Swedish husband and wife duo Wildbirds & Peacedrums (Mariam Wallentin, vocals; Andreas Werliin, percussion) released their sophomore album, The Snake, in their native country in March, but the rest of the world is just catching up to their debut, Heartcore, due for world wide release on May 12, 2008. Werliin's pattering provides rhythm, atmosphere, to accompany Wallentin's classically trained, technically precise yelping conjuring up the blues and gypsy incantation. The duo embark on a world tour this spring and will play with Jens Lekman, Caribou, Matmos, Born Ruffians, and A Hawk and a Hacksaw, along the way.Timo Lassy is a Helsinki-based sax player who likes his sound big. There´s both a bluesy, soulful undertone and a spiritual side in his playing. As The Guardian´s John L. Walters put it: "Saxophonist Timo Lassy has a storytelling approach to solos." Baritone, tenor or flute, Timo will deliver. Timo has played all over the world with several esteemed musicians, and now presents his own band comprised of the crème de la crème of contemporary Finnish jazz talent.
Established in 2000, The Ola Kvernberg Trio consists of Norwegian bassist, Steinar Raknes, Swedish drummer, Erik Nylander, and is led by Norwegian jazz violinist Ola Kvernberg. Ola grew up in a musical family, playing in the fiddle folk music tradition of his mom and granddad. Studying classical and folk music from age 6, he discovered jazz music at age 16 and has since then pursued his interest in improvised music. The trios reportoire today is a mixture of Ola’s compositions, bebop, folk, and modal jazz.
