The Diva-lution of Molly Pope

The Diva-lution of Molly Pope

Show Description

"Transports the audience back to the thriving Greenwich Village nightclub scene of yesteryear, where girl singers with big, robust voices and gumption to match took their first bold steps up the ladder to stardom. She's got the stuff, and there may be a ladder for her yet."
–Time Out New York

Molly Pope – the big-belting singer praised for “her viscerally thrilling alto” by Time Out New York – will debut a brand new show at Joe’s Pub on Tuesday, November 23 at 7:00 PM. “Introducing Molly Pope” brings the acclaimed old-school vocalist back to the Public in a musical romp through a decade of life in New York City.  Ms. Pope lends her signature retro vibe to material spanning 80 years of pop music, ranging from Tin Pan Alley to Amy Winehouse, as she traces her path from fresh-off-the-bus ingénue to self-styled urbanite and beyond.

"Introducing Molly Pope" – which features a four piece band led by music director Sonny Paladino – follows her critically acclaimed nightclub debut “The Diva-lution of Molly Pope” (named a “Top Ten Act of 2008” by Time Out New York) and this year’s “The Molly Pope Show” as the next madcap evening of dynamic vocals and unique interpretation from the fabulous Molly Pope.

Molly Pope is a rising actress and concert artist whose shows include "The Diva-lution of Molly Pope” (Joe's Pub, The Laurie Beechman Theater), "The Molly Pope Show" (Joe's Pub).  She is a regular face in the hit monthly Top Ten Countdown Our Hit Parade at Joe's Pub and has been a frequent guest at T"he Meeting*" with Justin Sayre and“Foreign Affairs” at the Night Hotel.  Current projects include the new musical Bromance: The Dudesical at Caroline's on Broadway and a track on the upcoming album "Another" from the band The Human Hearts led by indie-rock cult figure Franklin Bruno.

On stage she has appeared as Regan in King Lear (Gallery Players/Players Shakespeare), Young Woman in Machinal (Dreamscape Theatre Co) and “Maria” in Twelfth Night: The Drinking Game (Legitimate Theater Co). Most recently, she toured with Swing For Victory, a new World War II songbook musical.  On camera work includes “Law & Order SVU,” Secrets of the Mystic Oracle, Hunting and Evie’s Big Break at the Big Apple Film Festival, and promotional spots for Papa John's Pizza, Sundance Channel, and Bristol-Myers Squibb.  She is a member of The Dreamscape Theatre.

I caught her show at Don't Tell Mama, and I *had* to see it a second time. She's got a great voice, beautiful stage presence, is a great all-around entertainer, she's funny, risqué, has a fantastic voice, and..her choices of songs were just great. Unexpected, terrific interpretations of songs you'd never have expected to hear them as she sang them. Do NOT miss this!
