Romanian-born singer Sanda Weigl has quite a personal history. She first learned gypsy songs as a child and found early success as a child star on Romanian television. Later she was a rock singer in East Berlin, and was tossed into prison for protesting against the communist regime. In 1992 she moved to New York and she quickly became known as the “Gypsy Queen of Downtown New York”.

Tonight, Sanda takes the stage with a new group of musicians. Shoko Nagai on the piano, accordion, and arrangements; Stomu Takeishi on bass; Satoshi Takeishi on percussion and a special guest, serve as a balance beam for her thunderous, mezmerizing and sinfully spooky vocal “Gypnastics”.
