" A wildly diverse act that manages to sew threads of punk, country, and cabaret into an astonishingly cohesive sound...showcasing a star-powered frontman in Joe Hurley"
-BILLBOARD
"Joe Hurley is the best singer of vowels in rock since Shane MacGowan, and he's got fire behind those puppy eyes... One of New York's most entertaining frontmen, his distinctive vocals can be raucous as all get-out and as sorrowful as a baritone can be"
-Village Voice
Joe Hurley is a London-bred, Irish-blooded New Yorker who is widely heralded for both the emotional delivery in his gravel-throated baritone, and his finely tuned sense of lyrical detail. He is the leader of 2 NYC Bands, Rogue's March, and The Gents. Hurley's ballad 'Amsterdam Mistress" is featured on the new SONY release "Whiskey in the Jar: Essential Irish Drinking Songs and Singalongs" alongside classics from the Dubliners, Clancy Brothers and The Pogues. His song "Madcap Tears' can be heard on the new worldwide TV ads for Captain Morgan's Rum, and in recent times, he has appeared at venues ranging from Central Park Summerstage to Lincoln Center to the Bowery Ballroom and Webster Hall. His performance of "Send in the Clowns" at the Public Theater/Judy Collins Gala concert in October received a rave in the NEW YORK TIMES, while earlier this year Hurley performed with playwright Sam Shepard on Bloomsday, cabaret star Maude Maggart in March, and with his band on a series of festival dates in the Mid-West and North-East this summer.
Hurley's 10th annual Irish Rock Revue(NY stars singing the 'Great Irish Songbook') will be held in March and is "the most celebrated event of the St Patrick's season in NYC" -IRISH VOICE. His critically acclaimed CDs with Rogue's March have attracted the likes of Andrea Marcovicci, Marianne Faithfull , Sally Timms and Shane Macgowan who have all joined him onstage for duets. A 15 year founding member of the Loser's Lounge ensemble, he recently released a 2nd LIVE CD of his performances with the group, recorded here at Joe's Pub.
------------------------
For tonight's annual December show at Joe's Pub, Hurley will be joined by THE GENTS, a sublime cast of NYC players featuring James Mastro-Gtr(Ian Hunter) ,Tony Shanahan-bass (Patti Smith Band) Kenny Margolis-piano(Cracker) and Denny McDermott-Drums(Rosanne Cash) as he performs an exciting selection of older favourites & new material, from music-hall to piano ballads and stinging R&R, that will be heard on his forthcoming CD. With both Hurley and Mastro celebrating their birthdays at this show, expect some very special guests to join them onstage.
There will also be an exclusive giveaway of Keith Richards audiobook LIFE (read by Hurley, Johnny Depp and Keith) for a few lucky audience members.
