Upright Cabaret Takes Manhattan
East Coast Debut
with Ugly Betty's Michael Urie and Weeds' Hunter Parrish

Show Description

Upright Cabaret is a wildly popular Los Angeles night of song featuring an eclectic mix of artists from stage, record and screen. Cabaret is synonymous with New York City, but in sunny southern California Producer/Hosts Chris Isaacson and Shane Scheel along with Music Director Chris Bratten have turned cabaret into a hip and contemporary social swirl of young Broadway and Hollywood.

In the Golden Age of entertainment, Hollywood supper clubs like the Coconut Grove hosted all of the great stars of the day and helped define an era of style and sophistication that Hollywood was famous for. This was also a time when Hollywood stars could sing, act, dance and most importantly...entertain. Upright Cabaret has successfully reclaimed that era against a modern day backdrop of paparazzi, glitz and glamour in one of the hottest neighborhoods in the City of Angels. Now, they are bringing a concert version of their "new generation cabaret" to cities across America. First stop, New York City!

Upright Cabaret will host a very special New York edition of their famed cabaret starring familiar faces from stage and screen.  Scheduled performances include: The Broadway Boys, Andrea Burns (Broadway: In the Heights, Beauty and the Beast, Full Monty, off-Broadway: Songs for a New World), Gavin Creel (Broadway: Thoroughly Modern Millie, Hair, La Cages aux Folles, West End: Mary Poppins), Spencer Day, Tim Draxl, Audra Mae, Patina Miller (off-Broadway: Hair, Romantic Poetry, West End: Sister Act), Julia Murney (Broadway: Wicked, Lennon, Hair - the concert, off-Broadway: Wild Party), Hunter Parrish (Weeds, Broadway: Spring Awakening), Valarie Pettiford (Broadway: Tony Nominee - Fosse, West End: Chicago, UPN's Half and Half), Jessica Phillips (Broadway: Scarlet Pimpernel, Jesus Christ Superstar), Billy Porter (Broadway: Miss Saigon, Grease), Marni Raab (Broadway: Phantom of the Opera), Julie Reiber (Broadway: Wicked, All Shook Up, Brooklyn), Ken Robinson, Katie Thompson, Michael Urie (Ugly Betty), Rema Webb (Broadway: Lion King) and more!

Upright Cabaret began in Los Angeles in April of 2005 when producer/hosts Chris Isaacson and Shane Scheel bought an upright piano on Craigslist, borrowed a speaker and microphone from a guy in Venice Beach and begged a few of their talented friends to sing, drink and be merry. Since that standing room only inaugural engagement, Upright Cabaret has featured cast members from over 75 Broadway shows as well as stars from Ugly Betty, Grey's Anatomy, Cold Case, How I Met Your Mother, Dancing with the Stars, American Idol, House, Nip/Tuck and countless other film and television productions. After four years, this modern-day Martin and Lewis duo continue to worked tirelessly to capture the Bohemian spirit of ‘Moulin Rouge’ and to present the country’s finest singers in a variety of venues throughout southern California.

From Perez Hilton to Variety, a flurry of media attention and sponsors have exploded, spinning cabaret into Hollywood’s hippest social scene. Experience what Broadway World.com describes as “a playground for famous folk who happen to be musically inclined”, Backstage West called “astonishing”,  and what Angeleno Magazine proclaimed "one of the Best Ways to Get Down after Sundown in L.A!"

This show is a part of The 2009 APAP Conference.
