Show Description
The NYC Irish Arts Center, in conjunction with Joe's Pub presents an evening with Moya Brennan (the Voice of Clannad and special guest, Ashley Davis.
"Brennan is that rare artist who, by defying exact categorization, remains one to continually keep and eye on." -BILLBOARD
When Bono stated recently, "I think she has one of the greatest voices the human ear has ever experienced", he was heralding what many people know already about Clannad's Moya Brennan. She sings like nothing you’ve ever heard before! It makes sense that her live shows – with their trademark intimacy and power – should be such a rich and moving experience.
Being dubbed ‘the First Lady of Celtic Music’ is an honour she doesn’t take lightly. Yet her effortless vocals and timeless music pay homage not only to her vibrant traditional Irish heritage as the voice of Clannad but also her grasp of contemporary expressions.
Moya’s current live solo album, Heart Strings, was recorded with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra.
"If traditional music in the U.S. is to become anything other than a museum piece, it needs people like Ashley Davis." -The Irish Voice, NYC
"Ashley Davis is a young woman with a beautiful voice and as much
musicality as anyone could wish for. She writes and sings with a
confidence way beyond her years." -Philip Glass
In the tradition of Celtic mavens such as Loreena McKennitt and Moya Brennan, Ashley Davis takes the best of the old and molds it into something uniquely beautiful, yet ascetically familiar. Through colorful stories and luminous songs, Ashley guides her audience back to a time when songs and stories were the center stone of the wintry night.
