Show Description
THE DAUGHTERS is one part concert, one part play, a spoonful of sex and comedy, and a big, extra helping of soul, written by up-and-coming songwriter, Shaina Taub. This experimental musical explores three daughters of Zeus: Athena, Artemis and Aphrodite, as sisters tackling war, love, mortals, constellations and sibling rivalry. Entirely sung in an eclectic blend of soul, jazz and pop, we follow the child prodigy Athena grow up, the reclusive rocker Artemis open up, and the iconic vixen Aphrodite get knocked up, admiring and despising each other all the while. Backed by four chameleonic nymphs, slipping in and out of the most epic of stadium rock shows and most intimate of unplugged gigs, the stories of these three mythic women are weaved in one hour-long act, scored by seven powerhouse female vocalists and five musicians. THE DAUGHTERS spirals fluidly and sharply through raw gospel wails to sweet, dirty funk, to muscular rock, all in the hammock of a timeless, timely story of three women in the public eye, in private pride and passion, struggling between change and safety, desire and fear, all inside the combustible, graceful, thunderous container of a concert. The cast features: Kate Ferber, Jo Lampert, Shaina Taub, Lindsay Wolf, Alyse Alan Louis, Ali Stroker, Ryann Redmond & LaDonna Burns.
