Scarce with special guest Chris Brokaw Guitar Trio

Show Description

Scarce released their major label debut, Deadsexy, on A&M Records in 1996 in followup to a domestic & international indie release, great press (they garnered a 3.5 star review in Rolling Stone) & extensive touring in the UK & US, culminating with an opening slot on Hole's '96 tour.

Scarce was poised for a national breakthrough in the late 90's when the lead singer sustained a brain injury a week before Deadsexy was to be released. The release of the album was postponed, and Graning then spent the next nine months re-learning how to walk, how to talk, and then how to play his guitar and sing his songs. After his injury, however Graning found that he and Raskin had drifted apart both musically and emotionally, and, shortly after the US release of Deadsexy the band broke up. Bassist Joyce Raskin wrote ACHING TO BE, a book about the experience that resulted in the band re-forming and playing their first-and sold out show in 11 years in Boston in the fall of ‘07.

“NO ONE LIKES YOU”, a 5-song EP featuring “Stupid In A Cup” is slated for an OCT 2009 release & will coincide with a documentary on the band. The band will be performing at Pop Montreal, the UK,  & select US cities throughout the fall in shows that will combine screening the documentary & a live band performance.

"Tattoos And Parades", Scarce's first reunion recording, was released in OCT of 2008; highlights include the melodically surrealistic pop waltz "Imagining It" and "Dust", a moving and jarring eulogy to their friend and highly regarded guitarist/songwriter Chris Whitely. They followed this release with a fall ‘08 European tour opening for Heather Nova & a headlining show in London.

New York based guitarist CHRIS BROKAW celebrates the release of his new LP "VDSQ SOLO ACOUSTIC VOLUME THREE" on Vin Du Select Qualitite Records. The album is entirely for multitracked 12-string acoustic guitars; for this show Chris will perform in a trio of 12-string players including Michael Davison and Zachary Cale.

In 1990, Chris began recording and performing internationally with CODEINE, with whom he played drums and guitar on 2 records for SUB-POP. In 1992, he left that band to pursue songwriting, singing and guitar playing with COME, who recorded four albums for MATADOR and toured internationally over the course of 10 years. Since 2002, Chris has recorded six other solo albums.

Chris regularly performs solo as well in the bands DIRTMUSIC and THE NEW YEAR. In the past year he has also performed and recorded as accompanist to THURSTON MOORE, CHRISTINA ROSENVINGE, RHYS CHATHAM, and STEVE WYNN.
