Boom Boom Satellites featuring Tahj Mowry; and Soul Mafia

Show Description

Bred in Indianapolis and now hailing from Brooklyn, Soul Mafia disregard existing musical genres and forge a brave new sound that is both timeless and right on time. Fronted by G.C., known as the Jimi Hendrix of Hip-Hop for his triple proficiency as a rapper, guitarist, and saxophonist, Soul Mafia reflects influences from Guns N Roses to Jay-Z to Prince while ultimately landing in a space all their own.

Arriving in New York City in 2001, G.C. and keyboardist/producer Prism began to establish the Soul Mafia brand through a trial by fire of open mics, battles, self promoted shows, and guerilla marketing tactics. By developing Pursuance Inc., the production wing of Soul Mafia, through placement on FOX, ESPN, and MSG, G.C. and Prism were able to finance their grass roots efforts. The early years were characterized by a revolving door of supporting players, but after several line-up changes, G.C. and Prism found the missing elements of Soul Mafia in drummer Lil D and vocalist Iam Beck.

Iam, an old band mate of G.C.s, was living in Indianapolis completely cut off from music until he got a call out of the blue from G.C. One week later he was on a greyhound bus. Two weeks later he was singing in front of 10,000 people.

Lil D, a 20 year old musical phenom born and bred in the heart of crime ridden Crown Heights, was added shortly after. Often described by engineers as the loudest drummer Ive ever heard, his fiery and dangerous style is a perfect fit for Soul Mafia.

With the inner circle established and battle tested from Detroit to South Carolina and the new album MK Ultra locked and loaded, Soul Mafia is ready to go international with the fiercest rock/ hip-hop show anywhere. Forged through years of struggle and sacrifice as individuals and as a collective, Soul Mafia is prepared to go the distance. In the words of G.C., if you aint in it til the finish, what you in it for?

Electronic/Rock unit BOOM BOOM SATELLITES, formed by bassist/programmer Masayuki Nakano and guitarist/vocalist Michiyuki Kawashima first broke in Europe in 1997. They absorbed both electronic and rock elements to create a completely new and unknown sound, which at the same time has contributed to boost their profile as one of the most distinguished music producers in Japan.

Their first release of 12” single was made in Europe in 1997, which triggered rave reviews from definitive European music magazines such as Melody Maker, who compared their debut impact to those of the Chemical Brothers’ and Prodigy’s. In the following year of 1998, the band traveled across Europe performing at 6 major rock festivals and accompanying a European tour of the legendary Electronica unit, Underworld, to perform with. Then, right after their triumphant return to Japan, the band dropped the first album “OUTLOUD”, which was later released in Europe and the USA as well.

The latest album has been produced through the long-standing rebellion of the band to the world that tends to appreciate music genre-by-genre; namely, Rock or Dance. However, they have a clear answer in this album – Rock AND Dance, both can exist at the same time and place. Within this 42-minute size album, their struggle for music continues to resonate, and the album has become the unveiling of a new chapter in the history of Boom Boom Satellites once again.

Boom Boom Satellites' new single "Kick It Out" features Tahj Mowry and Flo-Rida.
