Dan Torres with special guest Martin Rivas

Show Description

“Dan Torres’ ability to silence a room with his hauntingly beautiful melodies and heart-wrenching lyrics simply indicates how personally his songs resonate to audience members, each clearly mesmerized by his voice and hanging on the next chord.”
-Christina Morelli, NYC Art Scene (www.nycartscene.com)

Dan Torres
is one of the hottest acts to grace the New York City music community. He is an artist with the ability to capture perfect words and human emotion, delicately tying them together for songs that move your body and soul. Known for an extreme vocal range that’s been likened to the great Jeff Buckley, and scintillating rhythms, Torres has taken down the house at many of NYC’s hip venues, scoring residencies at Rockwood Music Hall as well as playing to crowds at Bowery Ballroom, Highline Ballroom, Mercury Lounge, The Living Room and more.  Joined by his band consisting of New York’s finest musicians, Ryan Vaughn on drums/percussion, Patrick Firth on keys, and Brian Killeen on bass, Dan is quickly rising as a name to know in the scene.  Impressing crowds with his talent comes as second nature to the brilliant singer-songwriter, but the delivery of his music paired with a touch of class and a genuine appreciation for his audience is what keeps eager fans coming back for more.

------------------------

Charisma and undeniable warmth are just two of the many qualities Martin Rivas brings to the stage with his catchy, infectious songs and his beaming smile. This West Village and Lower East Side mainstay has made a name for himself as one of the hardest working musicians around, playing gigs almost every night that feature both original work and re-interpretations of longtime favorites from many genres. Since establishing the beloved “Campfire” series with drummer Craig Meyer, held at The Red Lion and Slane amongst others, Rivas has also taken the stage at the legendary Bitter End, Rockwood Music Hall, The Living Room and Canal Room. He was a finalist in the prestigious New York Songwriters Circle 2009 contest for his incredible song “North,” in addition to releasing his fourth full-length CD Sea of Clouds this past August, an album that takes us on the long journey and intimate roads this singer has traveled over the years. Martin is a true diamond in the rough, engaging the audience, singing from his soul, and reminding us all of the power and simplicity of raw, honest, music for music’s sake.

So, I'm not really a great fan of the singer-songwriter genre. Too many of them sound alike--either melodically/instrumentally and/or lyrically. Boy, did this man win me over. Christina Morelli's review (above) says it all. I agree wholeheartedly, and then some.
