WFUV Presents: Josh Rouse with special guest Sophie Madeleine
“There are approximately 2,138 white-guy singer-song-writers currently vying for your attention…it's hard to imagine any of them topping themselves six albums into their career - Somewhere, Nic Harcourt is having a glee-induced seizure.”
Josh Rouse started out on Rykodisc where he released five albums and two EPs of literate and engaging guitar pop. During his early years with the label, the singer/songwriter won a devoted audience with his sharply observed lyrics and melodic pop sensibility. A decade after his debut, Rouse picks his favorites from his Rykodisc years for a two-disc anthology that includes his best songs, rare tracks and seven unreleased demos and outtakes. Years and musical styles may separate these songs, but ultimately they are linked through the warmth of Rouse’s voice, the conversational ease of his singing and his unfailing melodic gift.
“Heart-aching ability to write vivid love songs"
"Madeleine has a fireplace warmth to her voice that hugs perfectly against simple, yet smart lyrics."
