Soul music lovers and crate diggers embraced the June 21 release of ‘Got To Get Back!’ on Electraphonic Recordings from Memphis soul music standard bearers The Bo-Keys, their first in seven years. Powerhouse guest vocalists join the band on the album, including Stax Records hit-maker William Bell, soul/gospel great Otis Clay, blues legend Charlie Musselwhite, and classic Atlantic Records singer Percy Wiggins, the latter of whom will be at Joe's Pub. The Bo-Keys have become a house band for the Ponderosa Stomp festival; performed at Lincoln Center’s Midsummer Night’s Swing; appeared on screen in the film “Soul Men,” starring Samuel L. Jackson and Bernie Mac; backed Cyndi Lauper on her GRAMMY-nominated album as well as on the Late Show with David Letterman (CBS). Marc Myers wrote in the Wall Street Journal, “Funky[,] authentic groove… If the Bo-Keys sound like Memphis in the 1960s and early '70s, it's probably because most of the band's musicians were recording back then for the city's top labels.” USA Today said, “[This music] gets me dancing in ways I hope the neighbors don't see... I can’t imagine anyone disliking it.”
