"Ingenious ...radical.... extravagant talent... the Avant-garde, daring diva and conceptualist is able to turn her ruminations into fascinating musical explorations. York is sure to take it to parts un-dreamed of.”-The New Yorker
“Nora York has no use for the words "musical genre." The aurally delicious What I Want, stands tall and proud at the intersection of Joni Mitchell, Steely Dan, Jane Siberry and Norah Jones…stripped of any excess, is, in a word, beautiful.”
-Billboard Magazine
“The dynamic performance artist turned singer-songwriter juxtaposes eras, genres and attitudes to create a series of bold, brave sound sculptures. ...You know you are dealing with an intensely sharp witted fatalist who is as gifted an emotional puppeteer as she is a poet.”
-JazzTimes
Nora York called “one of the most original musicians on the current scene.” by the New York Review of Books, returns to Joe’s Pub December 11th with Swerve .
York is challenging herself to write a new group of songs during the three month interval between September 11, 2011, and her Pub concert December 11th 2011. Swerve promises to reflect York’s varied approach to musical genre – from pop to opera, singer songwriter to art song -- as much as her passionate love of the world and it’s pains and it’s pleasures. York is joined by her Amazing Band -- Jamie Lawrence on piano, Dave Hofstra on bass, and Steve Tarshis on guitar. Don’t miss this first listen to a unique concert.
