The Losers Lounge tribute to Carole King

The Losers Lounge Tribute to Carole King Brings Girl Group Legends

Show Description

Joe McGinty and the always-innovative cast of The Losers Lounge will be reuniting the early songs of Carole King with some of their original Girl Group performers on April 26, 27 and 28 at Joe’s Pub.

The Losers will be joined by Lala Brooks of The Crystals (April 26, early show on April 27) performing the still controversial “He Hit Me (And It Felt Like a Kiss)”, Margaret Ross of The Cookies performing a King song from her repertoire (April 27, both shows) and Beverly Warren taking the lead on “Let Me Get Close To You” (Friday April 27, both shows) - a song she recorded at the age of 15, and performed for the first time 50 years later in 2011 during the Girl Group show at Lincoln Center.   Non-Girl Group favorite Ira Kaplan from Yo La Tengo will be joining the cast on Thursday’s show. Music from all eras of Carole King’s career will be honored, including her late ‘60s pop songs and confessional, singer-songwriter material from the 1970s.

One of the most popular and joyous events in New York City’s recent musical landscape, “The Losers Lounge will be bringing along the quirky yet spot on arrangements of Joe McGinty, as well as their fabulous cast of characters, special guest singers and other surprises” (Time Out New York)
