John Kelly makes his solo Joe’s Pub debutperforming songs by Kurt Weill, Charles Aznavour, Holcombe Waller, Richard Einhorn, The Incredible String Band, Carol Lipnik and Richard Thompson, among others.
Kelly will perform with his alter-ego Dargelos (brother of Dagmar Onassis), a genre-traipsing punk altar boy survivor, who returns in rageful, orphaned middle age - to stretch, violate, and besottedly embrace the song form - as a weathered sage.
John Kelly is a performance and visual artist whose work runs the gamut from dance theatre works to vocal concerts and exhibitions of visual art and video. His work explores the character of creative life as it occurs in the gradations between the ephemeral and the tangible. He has received numerous awards including Obies, Bessies, and The Rome Prize. He recently starred in a film by James Franco, ‘The Clerk’s Tale’.
