Although a Joe's Pub regular, for the first time ever Justin Levine will dedicate an evening to his music inspired by the life of Madam C.J. Walker, the first African American millionaire, as well as take us on a jazz-fueled romp into the madness of Guy Fawkes and the Gunpowder Plot. Justin is inspired by the unsung stories of history, be they stories of triumph or of terror, and exploring the musical life of these people and events. With his rousing band (led by the inimitable Charlie Rosen) and incredible guest singers, Justin runs through the gambit of musical styles, ranging from Jazz to Rock to Gospel to the Blues and more. As a composer, music director, performer and orchestrator, Justin has collaborated with David Byrne, Doug Elkins, Alex Timbers, Michael Friedman, Trip Cullman, Ted Sperling, Liz Swados, Lila Downs, Salty Brine to name a few, and is currently working at MTC, Roundabout, The Public and Naked Angels. He lives in Brooklyn.
