Cynthia Sayer: Swing Banjo Master
Show Description
Cynthia Sayer, the celebrated four-string banjo player and vocalist praised for her "drive and virtuosity" by the New York Times and 10+ years performing in Woody Allen's New Orleans jazz band, will perform songs from her first album in five years Joyride, out Jan 22, 2013. Fretboard Journal recently declared that Sayer is "pushing the four-string banjo into new, uncharted territory." Her eclectic swing-based show will include early jazz, country classics, tango, Great American Songbook favorites, and more. Sayer takes the stage with some of her new album’s acclaimed players, including accordionist Charlie Giordano (aka the keyboard player with Bruce Springsteen’s E Street Band), Adrian Cunningham on clarinet & sax, Jim Whitney on string bass, and percussionist Larry Eagle (Springsteen's Seeger Sessions Band, Andy Statman Trio).
"Sayer sang and played virtuoso solos...a wizard on the instrument." -New York Newsday
