SKYE (of Morcheeba)

SKYE (of Morcheeba)

Show Description

Skye is the UK’s greatest gossamer-soul singer. Her third solo album Back To Now is a stunning collection of electronic future-pop, released through [PIAS] Recordings (Sigur Ros, Seasick Steve, Ghostpoet, Morcheeba). Back To Now sees Skye sneak out of the low-lit smokey club and head straight onto the neon-lit dance-floor. This is hypnosis by electronica: driving beats, multi-layered loops, vintage 80s synths and tremulous 21st Century sonics, electric blue flashes of Goldfrapp, Depeche Mode, Air, all powering through beneath Skye’s exquisitely unique, now increasingly rich vocal. Written by Skye and Steve Gordon (her musician husband), it’s a startlingly bold soundscape produced by Grammy-award winning producer Steve Fitzmaurice (renowned for his diverse, sophisticated work, from Timbaland, Seal and Wendy & Lisa to Depeche Mode, Kylie and U2).

Always a global artist, during her 7 year hiatus from Morcheeba, Skye released her debut solo album in 2006, Mind How You Go (Atlantic Records) recorded with Grammy Award-winning Daniel Lanois and life-long Madonna collaborator Pat Leonard, the gorgeous single ‘Love Show’ soaring to No.1 on iTunes after an airing on Grey’s Anatomy in the States. In 2009, the sensual, intimate Keeping Secrets followed (released independently, through the internet, after a series of global label closures) created with Alexis Smith and Grace Jones collaborator Ivor Guest. Towards the end of 2011, on Morcheeba’s hugely successful 18 month tour across Europe, America, Canada and South America, Back To Now was accidentally born via a visit to an old friend. Skye’s latest album is the sound of electric blue: a kinetic seam of creativity bursting with vibrant life, a beam of hope from the brooding darkness pulsing towards the light. It’s no wonder she is now more confident than ever.
