CONVERGENCE by Karen Chilton
Show DescriptionA staged reading featuring Sharon Washington & Reg E. Cathey
Directed by Awoye Timpo
With music by Xavier Davis
A five-character play set on Chicago’s Gold Coast, writer/actor Karen Chilton’s latest work CONVERGENCE uses the relationship between a prominent psychiatrist and her schizophrenic patient to explore the dynamics of class and community. The play’s rhythmic style uses jazz as a metaphor as the dialogue between the characters flows from melodious and harmonious to discordant and cacophonous.
Featuring: Sharon Washington (The Scottsboro Boys, Wild With Happy), Reg E. Cathey (Love's Labor's Lost, "The Wire"), Francois Battiste (Detroit 67, The Winter's Tale), Crystal A. Dickinson (The Call, Clybourne Park), Brian D. Coats (On the Levee, Invisible Man), and Lizan Mitchell (Having Our Say, HBO's "John Adams"). Written by Karen Chilton (HAZEL SCOTT The Biography, "Half Nelson," "Rubicon"). With music by Xavier Davis (Christian McBride’s Grammy-award winning album “The Good Feeling”).
