Howard Fishman: A Star Has Burnt My Eye
The Strange Case of Connie Converse
Joe's Pub favorite Howard Fishman, of Lincoln Center's American Songbook series, presents a work-in-progress showing of his latest tribute to an American songsmith: the unusual life and compelling music of the mysterious Connie Converse, who self-recorded a remarkable body of work while living on her own in 1950s New York City.
A Star Burnt My Eye also features performers Anastasia Barzee (URINETOWN, JEKYLL & HYDE), Susan Oetgen (of the Brooklyn band LIKENESS TO LILY), Jean Rohe (Birdland, Montreux Jazz Festival), and Charlotte Mundy (St. Ann's Warehouse, Brooklyn Academy of Music), with additional music by Howard's bandmates Rob Adkins and Russell Farhang. Workshops of A Star Has Burny My Eye have been previously performed at Joe's Pub, the Abrons Arts Center, and at The Rattlestick Theater.
